Priyanka Trehan‘s translation of Amrita Pritam‘s poem: Light (Gurmukhi to English)

In this night of separation

Some light is coming through

And, Then the lantern of memories

Moved a bit higher

One tragedy, one wound and

One affliction was with the heart

The night got multiples of this sum belonging to stars

From the gaze and sky

The sun has walked away somewhere

But, in the moon its

Fragrance is still coming

Blended with it

a drop of your love

That is why life’s

Entire bitterness I drank
