Myrtle Thomas’s poem: Alien Interactions With A Poet

today has gone – lost in its own skin

nothing can contain its roots nor stem

nothing brings back the river singing

to the wind – nor the weight of the stars

try as I must there’s no combing it out of

the silver threads or the trials of my life

everything evaporates in the summer sun.

somethings never tarnish in our rusty bones

mirrors cleaned so many times left with black-

veins that lead to sorrow in only a fleeting moment

the windows now are stained in life’s joy and sadness

rattle and roar for no one can save us from such as this

so,bend with the wind’s troubles and stand naked

as an infant – no one is innocent – not one soul.

here we are standing exposed and unheard

walking closer to the earth – and the here after

my breath makes a mist upon the antique mirror

and a voice speaks large like thunder to the roaring

in my heartbeat as it leaps in this prison of penalties

a voice of promises and rapture the colored rainbow.

there’s always been a beginning and an ending

no matter how the mirror bends in my eyes

or my words go silent in the night’s shadows

I lived once and only once will I remember its moonlight

when twilight burns within me the shadow of midnight

will test fate and faith – time with all of its trials-

embrace love and desire.

but to love a poet with body & spirit – is a reflection

of heart – to watch them deep in thought while they

exercise their hand pouring out moonlight & sunlight

or the wounds laying dormant – unseen yet bleeding

so much to say but the pages refuse the lettering

blinded by the white noise and the roar of society

yelling what side are you on- just the dark side of the

moon.
