I step out onto the sidewalk,
Sunglasses on.
I’ve polarized lenses, round as the world.
I tilt my head, it turns seconds to hours.
But sand falls out my left ear, water out my right.
The full have friends, the lonely magic.
It’s time to walk along the beach and feel sorry for myself.
The waves drown out my cries for help.
Where blue meets blue the world has folded in upon itself.
I’m the filling in a blue dumpling.
I can kick rocks in revelation’s waiting room for hours.
I step out onto the sidewalk,
Patti Smith greets the day ten hours late.
I’m walking and I’m smiling, just a bit.
I go to an art fair.
I watch TV in good company.
Somewhere in me I’m singing.
This is what skin feels like.
Someone pried me off the shore,
I’m a beached whale no more.
I’m as sentimental as I’ve been…
I step out onto the sidewalk,
Speedwalk to keep up with my thoughts.
I’m vulnerable to happenstance;
The wrong look and I’m off.
Trading sorry’s for SSRIs is harder than you’d think.
I flooded the market on the former,
I gave them away,
And myself too.
Beached whales
We get in the way.
Here’s my carcass all you condors.
Here’s my carcass all you gulls.
No matter what you eat of me,
I ate more of myself.
