Noah Reese-Clauson’s two poems

A Star Called “Bitterness”

We give the love we think we deserve.

Honesty. How enigmatic.

Here’s a point that can’t be made with language:

A star, no matter what you call it, is still a star.

We deserve the love we give.

Fuck you,

Fuck me.

Fuck is a word of love and hate.

Love is a pantheon, Hate is a god—that’s not to say one is

             winning.

A star fell into the lake and made one third ’ the water bitter.

If there’s a star called bitterness love it—

Love it back

Into the sky.

Dreams and deaths,

I talked of neither,

Groping into the water

On wet rocks;

Instead, I tried not to slip.

In fact, I didn’t speak at all

And still I fell.
