Artist’s Note: Ameya Anand Kulkarni’s art is an exploration of the human mind and its complexities. Through meditation and self-study, he discovered art as a powerful medium for transformation, playful expression, and joy. He uses abstraction, layering, vibrancy, and surrealism to create his work. With the human face as a recurring motif, he seeks to convey that although identity may appear solid, it is, in fact, fluid and illusory. His art reflects his belief that, whatever the struggles one faces, healing is always possible.

Face is the symbol of identity.

Identity keeps us rooted to the material world.

We believe that is what we are, the body, the person.

However it can be a gateway to the formless spirit, our true being.

Ameya Anand Kulkarni is a practising architect and self-taught artist based in Mumbai and Pune. Holding a diploma in yoga and certification as a yoga teacher, he draws on his spiritual practice to inform his artistic expression. Working across watercolour, poster colour, acrylic, oil, charcoal and graphite, his work explores mental health, inner transformation and identity, often through abstract portraiture. Blending abstraction, complexity, vibrancy, transparency and illusion, Ameya uses the human face to examine the psychological depths of the self. Through his art, he seeks to share his personal journey while encouraging greater awareness of mental wellness and self-discovery.
