Somali Mukherjee’s two poems

Awaiting an Epiphany

The sunbeams seem to wane;

Hope becomes too scanty;

Life seems to be a blind lane;

There lingers just van’ty.

I try to catch a straw,

In spite of every dreary dread;

There’s no peace; there’s no law;

Before my demise, I’ve been dead.

The more the days fly away,

The more unknown the faces are;

I sing on my lonesome lay,

In the pursuit to be a star.

Sometimes, myself do I console,

“Let this life move on fast.”

There’ll be none for me to condole,

When I do breathe my last.

How uncanny life has been!

The brevity, sometimes, does pain;

Moments of love are left unseen;

Will I never find them again?

Thus, we pine our time away,

Thinking of what’s been lost;

‘Today’ will become ‘yesterday’;

Let the sunbeams light up the frost.

The Epistle

That sweet

Love letter

Does treat

Us better,

Even now.

Well, how?

Its strength

Has length;

O, none can

Ever fathom

Love human

From bottom.

Endless amour

Is our armour.

I know, to me, you’ll always remain perfect;

Although my human heart’s too full of defect,

My visage, for your love, will my love reflect.
