Challenges

Living with a disability

Can be a challenge.

In many aspects,

There are strikes against us

Every second

Of every hour

Of every day.

Just out of step

With the rest of the world.

There are times where

No matter how hard we try,

It's just not good enough

To flow smoothly,

To blend in,

To avoid the stares.

The weight can be crushing.

Emotions become heavy,

Thoughts can turn twisted.

Yet

We must shoulder on,

For those that love us,

For those that depend on us,

For ourselves.

Try your best.

Continue moving forward.

Keep goals in sight.

Celebrate the victories.

Lifeline

There's always a lifeline.

Sometimes when we're trying to climb a mountain,

The ascent turns into a fall.

We plummet into a deep ravine,

Escape seems impossible.

We desperately climb up

Towards the light,

Nails splintering,

Fingertips bleeding,

Yet we slide helplessly back down

Into the shadows.

The stone is cold.

The air is thick.

Panic grips the throat.

The heart races.

Breathing becomes labored.

Yet we need to remember –

There's always a lifeline.

Never give up on your struggle

To climb out of the pit.

Perseverance is the key.

No matter how jagged the path,

You can find a way out.

Keep looking for footholds,

Keep reaching for the light.

There's always a lifeline.

Don't be afraid

To break the silence.

Don't be afraid

To call for help.

Don't be afraid

To reach out a hand.

True strength is knowing

When to let another pull you up

From the ledge.

There's always help

If you need it –

There's always a lifeline.
