Dear Father
Even at the age of 10 I do not understand why you risk your life to save strangers you do not know. Why not sit at home and watch a movie instead? Or have a typical family night with the rest of the house. Why not bear the weight of my scolds and taunts and shrivel down into the living room couch? Or spend a night with your anticipating family? Or turn into an ever-greedy businessman and let the spark for army life disappear from your eyes? What I mean to say with my ravaged clump of words is why be an army officer? I have failed to understand it and I still do. But perhaps father you entertain the prospect of dying for your country, and patriotism the way I entertain writing as revealing the truth to a greater crowd. If so, then so be it. Fulfill your dreams, and don’t be bound to family expectations. We will support you no matter what.
From your ever doting daughter, Ameirah.
