John Whybrow’s poem: My Story

Dedicated to – Maureen Whybrow 29th December 1937 – 24th July 2015

I thought I saw her face today

In the sparkle of the morning sun

And then I heard the Angel say

“Her work on earth is done”

I thought I heard her voice today

Then laugh her gentle laugh

And then I heard the Angel say

“There’s peace little one at last”

I thought I felt her touch today

In the breeze that rustled by

And then I heard the Angel say

“The spirit never dies”

I thought that she had left me

For the stars so high above

And then I heard the Angel say

“She left you with her love”

I thought that I would miss her

And never find my way

And then I heard the Angela say

“She is with you every day”

John Whybrow was 90 on August 20, 2025. His four children and grandchildren kept on asking him about his life, so he had the ‘My story’ book published through blurb. He presented it to Shrewsbury House community centre at Shooters Hill, SE London, ‘for all it has done for me.’
