Alok Kumar Ray’s poem: Daughter

Altering stature frequently

With time, with situation, with surroundings,

Has taken a vow for an amicable defrayal

Always skilled at bringing things together

Keeps the threefold oath of fusion

A simple, tall but slim, emotionally driven girl

Seeks the moon in the broad daylight sky.

Without grasping the basics of mathematical calculations,

Perhaps she finally places a question mark on the remainder

Perhaps she becomes ecstatic by merging division with addition

She is a fierce adversary of deletion and impediment

For her, the burgeoning of glee is a heavy burden

The accounting of mathematics in her vocabulary

Is only a displaced and hopeless mistake.

She values beauty and adores it too

Her mind is obsessed with opulence, surely

For her, formation, situation, and rhythms are only social shocks

Of renunciation she is an unusual epitome

The whole expression of love and longing is she, boundless

A facsimile of tolerance is she

Of the tradition of admiration, she is the golden counterpart.
