Lynn White’s two poems

Red Carpet

I wonder if Herzog was agog to hear

the red carpet would be rolled out

on another dark day for justice.

Yes, on another dark day for humanity

they rolled out the red carpet

like a river of blood in London.

He waded through it

bringing his whole nation with him

there are no innocents

none who do not know

all are responsible now.

He waded through it

and took this whole nation with him

there are no innocents

none who do not know

all are responsible now.

He waded through it

and took all the nations with him

there are no innocents

none who do not know

all are responsible now.

Lammy’s Lament

I hear no cries

I hear no sighs

no one has died

there’s no genocide.

So goes the chorus of Lammy’s Lament.

In the choir the voices sing louder,

louder and louder

in a chorus of lies

to bring down the House

of those dead inside,

to bring down the house

on those dead inside.
