Bella Melardi’s poem: Backyard Bombs

Backyard bombs

Are now bird feeders

Mans best friend

Is a man-eater

Birds are ghosts

And ghosts are bread

I don’t want dying to be the most powerful thing

You ever did

Life can be hard for me and you

Even if I can’t comprehend anything you are going through

Why do some believe if they don’t understand you

You deserve what you are going through

Nobody deserves to be told

Their existence

Their community

Their home

Deserves to burn

Simply because someone in power

Wants them too
