Sheila Thadani’s three poems

From Spring with Love

As spring awakens, pansies spread

With buds of tulips, pink and red.

Stroll amidst a sea of flowers,

Leave behind a sullen winter.

Butterflies sip nectar honey

From hallowed hearts of lilies

Amorous bees serenade

Their love to favourite pansies

A whiff of lilac and purple asters

Spreads across a sultry languor;

Watch the birds’ duet of love,

Ready to build a nest above.

See the earth’s majestic fair,

Canaries warble love and care.

Yellow monarchs cavort around

To bring a concert of color and sound.

A world teeming with life.

Dandelions mingle with lavender.

Lush feather ferns arise

To speak with hushed whispers.

Nature outlays time and nurture

To reap its grace and splendor;

If only people invested time and care

To love alike to blossom and share.

Serendipity

At this time a year ago,

Across distant shores

When the buds of tulips fanned,

At a distance, I spied a man.

My eyes on him remained, it seemed,

Like the stars which forever gleam.

His eyes returned my gaze in kind,

Like love's arrow seeking to find.

A kindred soul on earth to share

Inner thoughts and feelings to bare.

The spark of love lighted

Flames of passion ignited.

Unplanned, a divine chance,

An unforeseen romance,

Neither weed nor wine has the potion

To flame the fires of intense passion.

Do we save it in a flagon

To savour its bouquet over again

Love, enduring and sublime,

Or be erased by the march of time.

Nature's Balm

The day comes to a close,

dusk dims sun's light

to wrap reason in repose

and brush off chaff at night.

How frail the mind,

it must sweep day's debris

to restore its norm

with nature's daily balm.

Sleep welcomes the spirit

to cradle it in its arms.

Into its caves of dark recess

the mind gently drifts.

Alone, away from strife,

a world of dreams arise.

Deprived in real life,

visions fulfill at night.

Goblins roam to flourish

in the brain, if denied

nature's salve to nourish.

Havoc haunts the mind.

The elixir of sleep wipes

clean the strains of stress;

anxiety erased from daily toil,

to ignite the mind afresh.
