Ann Privateer’s two poems

No Medicine Needed

Why

For the girl who is

Shy yet persistent

Gentle yet strong

Who knows so much

And knows her place

Raised in a female

Household, happy

And sunny, and bright

My paradoxical friend.

Why must we only speak truth

In metaphors, "my phone misses you"

It practices being alone

Mine does too, remembering

Unable to forget that once we

Were special offers for each other

Humbled by being free, maybe

Without a monthly fee, feeling

Footloose, never the caboose

Relating and relaxing every day

Even by the hour sometimes

Now you've taken on the family

Plan, no time except for your circle

Oh, I moan and grown but to no

Avail, no longer on your circuit

No long-term relationship, no

Care…I swear…missing you.
