Ishana Roy and Debarghya Dey’s collaborative piece: Nature’s Balance

Editor’s Note: It is exciting to see how an artist can read into the words of a child and create something that can add value to that child’s imagination. This collaboration is an attempt to explore that possibility.

Once upon a time in the sky with all its might,

Shone the grand Sun all over,

But suddenly, he saw a strange sight,

The Moon was coming closer and closer

“What are you doing here at day time?” asked the Sun

“O’ Mighty One, how I long to have your power!” prayed the Moon

“Oh, you’ve committed a huge crime!” roared the Sun

“Now I shall make you shudder soon!”

“Nobody takes my place!”

The Sun became red as a tomato,

Tears swam in the Moon’s eyes,

The Sun shot jets of fire, high and low,

The Moon was burnt as it fell from the skies

The great Sun did indeed overpower,

He didn’t leave a spot without light,

For he was sure no one could take his power,

Even with all their might

Little did the Sun know, that all this while,

Someone was listening, while still sleeping

To his argument, with a smile

His blue and green friend, who was now waking

Said the Earth, “Don’t compete,

You both have your own power,

You must neither think you’re incomplete,

Nor make each other cower”

“You are both important to me

Each, in your own right

You are both ruling over me,

Giving me Life and Light”

“Let’s enjoy our own place!”
