Kanwalpreet Baidwan‘s poem: The beauty of the old and new

The old is precious,

Laced with experiments,

And experiences,

The silver and grey are colours,

of wisdom, resilience and strength,

of years and generations,

These colours are not to be ignored,

For they are beacons,

for the future.

The ‘old is not old’,

it is clothed anew

with rich patches

of the earlier generations,

repaired to mix with the new.

The old is not redundant,

neither obsolete or decayed.

It has distinct flavours,

of many seasons and sunshine.

The ‘new’ is fresh,

dynamic and disarming,

a whiff of fresh air,

bringing with it ideas,

beaming with enthusiasm,

energy, excitement, ecstasy.

The ‘new’ has its roots

in the ‘old’,

It should be a harmonious,

singing of sageness and innovation.

The ‘new’ is needed,

a necessity and essential,

to propel the world,

onto the next level.

But it is the ‘old’,

that keeps the ‘new’,

measured and controlled.

The ‘new’ many a times,

Tries to shrug away,

The ‘old’, believing

that it might well be

discarded, hangs on a thread.

But the push and pull,

coalesces into something novel.

And the ‘old’ and the ‘new’

learn to co-exist

in harmony.

There is nothing to despair.

The ‘old’ and the ‘new’,

seeks compatibility

to build a great future.
